Imphal, February 03 2022:
Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) has announced its first list of six candidates for the State Assembly election.
The candidates include two women candidates Poonam Rani Wangkhem (Kshetrigao AC) and Khoi-rom Binarani (Konthoujam AC).
The other four candidates are Khuraijam Ratan- kumar (Khurai AC), Dr George T Haokip (Saikot AC), Md Islamuddin Khan alias MI Khan (Keirao AC) and Oinam Haridas (Wang-khem AC) .
The names were officially announced by NCP National secretary Narendra Verma at the party's State unit office at Wangkhei Ningthem Pukhri Mapal, today.
Speaking to the media, Narendra Verma informed that the next list of NCP candidates will be announced shortly.
He claimed that NCP will play an important role in Government formation albeit fielding limited candidates.
He went on to convey that the party is planning to field at least 10 candidates in the ensuing election.
Alleging that BJP doesn't respect the mandate of the people and the spirit of democracy, the NPP National secretary maintained that BJP formed Governments in Manipur, Arunachal Pradesh, Goa and Karnataka despite getting a lesser number of seats through manipulation.
Narendra Verma also alleged that BJP employs Government agencies to target Opposition parties and candidates without sparring even the journalists and Court officials.
He also accused the BJP for the price hike seen in Manipur and other parts of the country, claiming that fuel price will continue to rise after the Assembly elections in five States.
Narendra Verma further stated that the BJP led Government in the State has also failed to control COVID-19 and the same has been validated by the detection of Omicron variant in large numbers.
Stating that a collective effort is needed to defeat BJP, the NCP leader said that it would be a sole responsibility of Congress if the saffron party retains power in Manipur.
