Imphal, August 02 2020:
With increasing number of coronavirus cases and rising death toll, less people are now seen violating the lockdown and curfew imposed till August 6 .
The lockdown and curfew which had "little effect" when the pandemic first reached Manipur is now total.
Streets are now seen empty with only a few essential service vehicles plying the road.
Almost all shops in localities have also shut and street vendors are not seen on the streets.
It may be noted that Manipur had shut schools and clamped lockdown earlier before the Centre did when the virus first reached the State.
Notably, the first COVID-19 positive case, a girl who had returned from the UK was successfully treated and discharged after recovery.
The rising number of cases among people having no travel history and reports of death coming in these few days seem to have disciplined the people to enforce the COVID-19 safety guidelines themselves.
A police personnel who was on duty at Imphal Greater area told this reporter that less people are now seen coming out on the streets and all are seen wearing face masks.
There is no traffic in the bazar areas and only vehicles engaged with essential services are seen plying the roads and highways, said the personnel advising people to stay at home and maintain personal hygiene.
It may be noted that the novel coronavirus has infected more than 2831 people in the State.
About 1737 have recovered.
Notably, the disease claimed the life of a 20-year-old girl today.
