When MANIDCO approached Airports Authority of India to build the cargo terminal, AAI informed the State Government that necessary area would be allotted soon.
Subsequently, Commerce and Industries Department has already initiated necessary measures to build the cargo terminal with financial assistance from the Ministry of Commerce.
Official notification of Imphal airport being an international airport would be issued only after inspection by the Director General of Civil Aviation and the inspection would be done only when AAI informs the DGCA that Tulihal Airport is ready for inspection.
As for the foreign cities which would be connected with Imphal by air, airlines would decide it based on feasibility.
Notably, the Government of Manipur is keen on connecting Imphal with Yangon, Mandalay and Bangkok by air.
