Imphal, January 02 2014:
Even as the 12-hour Manipur bandh called to demand arrest of those involved in the murder of a school kid affected normal life in Samurou and adjoining areas, the JAC formed in connection with the case insisted that the boy's corpse would not be claimed till the accused person(s) have been identified/punished.
Enforcing the bandh, that began at 5 am today, suspected bandh supporters burned tyres, piled tree branches and boulders to block the Mayai Lambi stretch from the early hours.
Consequently vehicular movement ceased till late evening while shopkeepers downed shutters for the day.
It may be mentioned that Oinam Sharif, who was reading in class II in Little Master Higher Secondary School, Samurou, was found dead on December 28 at a river bank close to his home.

On the otherhand, a notice issued by the Wangoi PS said Sharif's body, presently lying at RIMS morgue, would be disposed off as per law if no one claims the same within 11 am of January 3 .
Speaking to media persons, a JAC functionary said contrary to the State Government assuring that the accused person(s) would be identified by 11 am today the police are yet to make any substantial breakthrough on the case.
It is said that a JAC team went to Wangoi police station yesterday to enquire about the investigation during which the police conceded that breakthrough continues to be elusive.
The JAC functionary quoting the police as saying that all out efforts are being made to identify the murderer(s), cautioned that any further delay in tracking down the killer(s) would compel the JAC to launch more intense agitation.
Reacting against the alleged police failure to nab the murderers, Sharif's father Md Oinam Dilawar also affirmed that until and unless the murderers are pulled up and punished as per law of the land the kid's body would not be claimed.
Stating that he is not interested in claiming any form of compensation, Dilawar said his only wish is to see the accused persons punished.
