Proposed restrictions on drivers suspended

The proposed restrictions on certain drivers announced by the Grievances Cell, Naga People's Organization (NPO) has been suspended following an assurance to effectively implement the MoU signed between the district CSOs and the State Government.
A press release issued by the Grievances Cell, NPO said that the proposed agitation restricting driving permissions for Naga, Meitei Pangal, Nepali and non-local drivers which was slated to begin from December 2, 2024 has been suspended.
This decision was made following an appeal by the District Administration, Senapati.
In this connection, a meeting was held on Sunday at the office chamber of the Deputy Commissioner, Senapati which was attended by representatives of the Grievances Cell, NPO, Truck Owners' Association and the Drivers' Union, Senapati.
During the meeting, the grievances of the drivers and the Truck Owners' Association were thoroughly discussed and the District Administration assured that sincere efforts to promptly and effectively implement the conditions outlined in the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) signed on November 15, 2024 would be taken up.
In case of any inordinate delay on the part of the Govt to implement the conditions of the MoU, the Grievances Cell, NPO would initiate democratic agitation, it said.
