Lamyanba Irabot's birth anniv kicks off

The 118th birth anniversary of Jananeta Hijam Irabot was kick-started today at Keishampat Lairembi community hall under the aegis of the Manipur Loumi Lup (Manipur Farmer's Oganisation) .
The first day of the commemorative function was observed as Loumisinggi Hak Tanba Numit (Farmer's demand day) which began with the offering of floral tributes to Hijam Irabot.
A sit-in-protest by the farmers was also staged during the event.
Speaking on the occasion, Manipur Loumi Lup's president Comrade N Mangi, elaborated on the life and works of Hijam Irabot.
He further stated that the freedom fighter's contribution to the land will forever be cherished by the generations to come.

Expressing his dissappointment on the lack of dam and canal construction projects by the Govt for the farmers, the president stated that the dams and canals that have been previously built have all flopped, due to lack of maintenance which otherwise should provide irrigation to farmers during lean season.
Following Hijam Irabot's steps, the organisation, he added, would fight for farmers right.
The president, urging the State Government to compensate for the fields which are effected by the Loktak Project, also demanded remodernisation of unfinished dam and canal projects to ensure sufficient supply of water for irrigation.
The oragnisations's president concluded his speech with demands to implement ILP and to lift AFSPA from the State.
The programme was also attended by CPI Manipur Assistant Secretary, Comrade L Thoiren Singh, Secretary Member CPI Manipur, Comrade L Iboyaima and Irabot Celebration Committee, Manipur's General Secretary, Comrade L Sotinkumar.
