Better for the Congress that Govindas has left: Loken

Imphal, August 01 2021:
Taking digs at the BJP soon after former MPCC (I) president Govindas Konthoujam crossed over to the saffron party, the Manipur Pradesh Congress Committee has asserted that those who left the Congress to join the BJP have gained nothing other than the one from Wangoi Assembly Constituency who was inducted as a Minister after his win in the by-election.
Addressing a press conference at its office, MPCC interim president MLA N Loken said that the resignation of Govindas Konthoujam has only brought stability to the Congress with the difference of opinion on leadership gone with him.
Continuing that people are quite aware of the real motive of some Congress MLAs in joining the BJP, Loken asserted that none of the Congress leaders who joined BJP have become full time Ministers other than the one representing Wangoi AC.
Asking why they (Congress leaders who joined BJP) are consciously dirtying their hands and image, the MPCC interim president exuded confidence that none of the remaining Congress MLAs will switch allegiance to BJP.
Asked about the probability of more Congress MLAs following Govindas, N Loken contended that the BJP leaders felicitating only him (the former MPCC chief) is self explanatory.
Only action will show how much of the claim that more Congress MLAs will join BJP comes true, he added.
Claiming that the Government is also silencing the media to conceal its wrongdoings, he added that the true nature of the incumbent Government will be exposed when the media is given the liberty they deserve.
Continuing that those who question the Government are often put behind bars, he added that people fear speaking against the Government as they fear arrest.
There is no end to the problem of leadership within the BJP and now with the former MPCC chief joining the saffron party, their situation will become more dicey and likened the situation to two tigers in the same habitat.
Tigers are ferociously territorial, he reminded.
Saying that the Congress, on the other hand, will focus on the 2022 Assembly polls to ensure victory, N Loken contended that addressing the problem of the people is the topmost priority of the party.
