Kangpokpi, November 30 2020:
Committee on Protection and Preservation of Mount Koubru has made it known to the public that it would not in any manner allow or agree to the erection/foundation stone laying of Church, Temple or Mosque at Mount Koubru.
A press communique signed by the committee president Seimang Chongloi and joint secretary Thangminlen Kipgen said that the committee is shocked and surprised to come across a new development based on religions/faiths based programme on Mount Koubru by some vested interest group whose intention is seemingly to inject social unrest between different faiths and communities in the State and Sadar Hills in particular.
Drawing the attention of all and the Mahousa KNBA Lup and making known its position on Mount Koubru, it said that the committee stands by its motto, "Save Mt Koubru" which is to preserve the ecological balance and bio-diversity by way of minimizing the overall human activity in Mt Koubru range.
It also said that the committee has been actively involved in afforestation with the help of the State Government and has been undertaking various measures deemed necessary to minimize the carbon footprint in the range and area of Mt Koubru.
"It is highly unfortunate that the so called Mahousa KNBA Lup is planning to lay a religious based foundation stone at the peak of Mt Koubru", said the Committee adding that while it respects and sympathizes all the religious sentiments of various faiths, it is against the objective of the committee to allow such human activities on Mt Koubru as it would amount to ecological imbalance of the area and range of Mt Koubru.
While the Committee strongly advises all concerned including Mahousa KNBA Lup to respect and acknowledge the "status quo" of Mt Koubru, it said that Mt Koubru should not become a "bone of contention and contestation" .
"No platform/forum or community should try to claim ownership of Mt Koubru based on particular religion or faith", asserted the committee and added that the committee along with the local populace humbly welcome and invite any group of people to conduct any ritual at Mt Koubru anytime and any season.
It further said that all matters related to Mt Koubru must be with prior knowledge, consent and participation bf the locals and the Committee on Protection and Preservation of Mt Koubru anytime and on any table or forum.
It also advised all concerned to withdraw or cancel any such program of laying a religious based foundation stone which may affect the ecological balance and can be detrimental to the interests of peace and harmony between different faiths and communities in the State.
