CM spells out plans for road widening

Chief Minister Okram Ibobi has said that the State Government has plans to widen the important roads of Imphal and National Highways.
Speaking to reporters on the sidelines of the 30th death anniversary observation of former Prime Minister Indira Gandhi held at Congress Bhavan, the Chief Minister said that the road expansion works from Maharani bridge to Khoyathong on Nagamapal road is delayed due to objections from some land owners.
However, distribution of land compensation for the said work has already been completed, he added.
Necessary steps are also being processed for the expansion of roads from Chingamakhong to Heirangoithong, Uripok Canteen road, Maharani bridge to Takyel Khongbal on Uripok Kangchup road, the Chief Minister said.
He added that widening of the stretch from Keishamthong to Krishnapremi oil pump has been discussed, however, it is yet to be decided, he added.

Saying that land acquisition for any development work takes time with the enforcement of the new Land Acquisition Act, the Chief Minister said that social impact assessment has become mandatory under the new Act and it takes around 41 days.
He added that the State Government has also plans to widen roads from Imphal to Yaingangpokpi and Imphal to Churachandpur on NH-150 and Imphal to Pallel on NH-2 .
Contending that people may face some inconveniences when these works are executed, the Chief Minister appealed to the public to bear it with the Government.
The Chief Minister said that the Prime Minister's office is yet to respond to the State Government's invitation to Prime Minister Narendra Modi to attend the Manipur Sangai Festival.
Okram Ibobi further said that necessary equipment has been installed to introduce visa on arrival service at Moreh.
The State Government is awaiting the Centre's nod regarding the matter, he added.
Regarding implementation of the 6th Schedule in hill areas, the Chief Minister said that the Government is yet to discuss the matter.
