Imphal, June 30 2015 :
The State Transport Department today carried out a drive to penalise vehicles which do not have high security number plates (HSNP) at Naoremthong in Imphal West district.
Speaking to reporters on the sidelines of the drive, Transport Department Inspector Dinachandra said that criminals can easily roam around in stolen vehicles as a large number of vehicles are yet to have HSNP.
|
Saying that criminals usually change or tamper the number plates to deceive police, Dinachandra said that people must fix HSNP on their vehicles as these are not removable and tamperable.
As such, crime rate would automatically come down if all the vehicles have HSNP in the State, he said.
Informing that the State Transport Department now has the necessary equipment for fixing vehicle tracking devices on the vehicles, he said that stolen vehicles would be easily tracked as the Department has started fixing this device on around 30 vehicles.
