Maj Gen Binoy Poonnen has taken over the reins of Red Shield Division from Maj Gen DS Hooda at an impressive ceremony held at Leimakhong today.
Maj Gen DS Hooda relinquished the command of the Division as his tenure at Leimakhong ended today.
A PIB (DW) statement conveyed that Maj Gen DS Hooda was instrumental in getting a large number of meaningful Military Civic Action Projects sanctioned and executed in the most far flung areas of Manipur and South Assam.
A large number of villages in remote areas which have functional schools, computer centres and games gifted to them stand as testimony to his concern for people of the State, it claimed.
Handing over the baton of Red Shield Division to his successor, Maj Gen DS Hooda wished the people of Manipur success and prosperity and exuded hope that peace would prevail soon in Manipur.
Maj Gen Binoy Poonnen, an alumnus of Officers Training Academy, Chennai, was awarded the Vishisht Seva Medal for his outstanding contribution to the army and the Nation while commanding a Mountain Brigade.

He has also held crucial staff and instructional appointments in the army.
Just before his posting at Leimakhong, Maj Gen Binoy Poonnen was posted at Integrated Headquarters of Ministry of Defence (Army) at Delhi.
The new GOC 57 Mountain Division has assured to maintain harmony between the army, the administration and the people.
He also conveyed best wishes to the people of Manipur.
