Imphal, April 30 2016 :
On the occasion of the International Workers' Day (May Day), the CorCom has called upon all the workers and peasants of Mani-pur to unite together for the sake of future generations.
A statement issued by CorCom media coordinator Ksh Yoiheiba conveyed warm greetings to all workers and peasants of the world.
Peasants and workers should be allowed to take central positions in the process of economic development of any country.
There may not be a single wealthy man in a country, but the working class people are indispensable for the survival of any country.
Although it appears that workers and peasants have been working for their own livelihood, their activities unfailingly contribute to the economic well being of other people and the society at large.
That is why a carpenter cannot sleep on a bed just like a mechanic cannot own a car.
Workers are one of the most powerful group of people in any society.
But in almost all colonised nations, workers are the most oppressed section.
The May Day has its genesis to the labourers' move- ment which broke out in the USA in the 19th century.
In Manipur, the first May Day rally was taken out under the leadership of Lamyanba Irabot from Moirangkhom through the office of the then Political Agent Jimson on May 1, 1939 .
The CorCom then highlighted the growing need to groom a vibrant work culture and replace all migrant workers engaged in both public sectors and private sectors by the people of the land.
This would certainly help in ameliorating the economic con- dition of the State.
"Otherwise our people would continue to lead a wretched life of slavery", CorCom asserted.
It is a matter of serious concern that the vibrant work culture which once characterised Manipuri people has disappeared from all Government undertakings/institu- tions.
Rather than providing any form of social security, the workers and peasants are being oppressed to the extreme under the alien rule, it alleged.
Peasants and workers should not be ashamed of their produces and activities.
They should be proud of their produces and activities.
It is only a matter of some years before Manipur has close connectivity with Western South East Asia and a number of developed nations.
"If we must capitalise on this opportunity and compete with the developed nations, we must protect our agricultural land, promote industry and respect the working class, and elevate their living condition", CorCom asserted.
It then called upon all workers and peasants to unite and stand firm against imperialism.
