Police furnishes record of 2014

Furnishing the record and achievement of the police in 2014, the PRO of Police Department in a statement today claimed that other than maintaining law and order, the State police managed to prevent and detect crime on a number of occasion.
Following co-ordinated efforts of the police and the security forces, the KCP (KK Nganba group) signed an MoU with the State Government and 37 cadres along with 31 arms attended the home coming ceremony.
Further 19 cadres of KCP (Nongdrenkhomba) which had signed an MoU in 2013 joined the home coming ceremony with 19 cadres who laid down 17 arms.
In addition to these, 98 militants surrendered to the State Government at the individual level along with arms and ammunition, said the PRO.
The main achievements in 2014 were listed as; 670 militants arrested, 9 militants killed in encounters, 108 arms seized, 1890 number of ammunition seized, 106 number of hand grenades seized, 141 number of detonators recovered, 10 IEDs seized, 32 number of explosive sticks recovered, 46 number of gelatin pieces recovered, 5.4 kgs of explosive material seized and Rs 6, 24, 915 amount of money seized from militants.
On the menace of drugs, the PRO listed a number of seizure incidents in 2014.Altogether 1400 kgs of heroin were seized, 3033.3 kgs of ganja recovered, 71.2 kgs of opium seized, 2.4 kgs of brown sugar seized, 58,746 N-10 tablets seized, 2378 bottles of cough syrup seized, 4.6 kgs and 950 tablets of pseudoephedrine and 8841 amphetamine tablets seized.
Moreover 636.8 acres of poppy cultivation were destroyed in 2014 .
During 2014, the State police also destroyed seized drugs under Section 52 A of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act 1985 after obtaining prior permission from the Court concerned.
Plans are also on to modernise the State police in the coming year in many aspects.
