Medical aid disbursed to 7 scribes

Paomee Welfare Foundation (PWF), a non-profit trust under the All Manipur Working Journalists' Union (AMWJU), has disbursed a total of Rs 1,39,000 as Medical Financial Assistance (MFA) to seven journalists under the first phase of the MFA scheme for 2024-25.Additionally, PWF reimbursed Rs 50,000 to AMWJU for expenses incurred on emergency medical relief during the same period.
The financial assistance was disbursed on Monday at a simple distribution function held at the Manipur Press Club.
The event was led by PWF managing trustee Kakchingtabam Bijoy, senior trustee Elangbam Imocha, trustee B Sanjoy, and PWF secretary Sunzu Bachaspatimayum, who handed over the assistance to the beneficiaries, informed PWF in a statement.
Under the first phase of the MFA scheme for 2024-25, applications were invited for treatment expenditure incurred between April 1 and September 30, 2024 .
Altogether, eight applications were received, which were then forwarded to the PWF medical board for consideration.
Following deliberations, the medical board provided its recommendations to the trustees' board.
However, an invalid application was detected as it was the second application submitted by the same individual.
Since the MFA scheme provides onetime assistance to primary members, associate members, and former AMWJU members but retired journalists, the particular application was not approved, it explained.
The remaining seven applications were approved for disbursement.
Among the beneficiaries, Salam Hemchandra Singh of lchel Express, who underwent treatment for acute appendicitis, was recommended Rs 15,000 .
However, he was given Rs 9,000 as he had already received Rs 6,000 from AMWJU as emergency financial assistance.
Thingbaijam Lakhikanta Singh of ISCOM received Rs 15,000 for treatment of BPPV and polycythemia.
Aribam Prem kumar Sharma of Impact TV, who applied for his mother's thyroid nodule treatment, was granted Rs 10,000 .
Other beneficiaries included Thokchom Rocky Singh of Naharolgi Thoudang and Laimayum Subash Sharma of Impact TV, both of whom received Rs 10,000 each for treatment of pancreatitis and cholelithiasis, respectively.
Ingumbam Paban Singh of Naharolgi Thoudang, who is suffering from acute anterior wall myocardial infarction CAD-DVD, received Rs 35,000 .
The highest amount, Rs 50,000, was granted to Nickel Arambam of The Sangai Express for his father's treatment of Parkinson's disease.
In addition to the disbursement of medical assistance, PWF reimbursed Rs 50,000 to AMWJU.
This reimbursement covered expenses incurred by AMWJU while providing immediate financial assistance to its members under PWF's Immediate Medical Relief Fund during the period from April 1 to September 30, 2024.PWF has also announced the opening of applications for the second phase of the MFA scheme for 2024-25 .
Journalists can apply for assistance for treatment expenditure incurred between October 1, 2024, and March 31, 2025.The disbursement for the second phase will be made in April-May 2025, the statement added.
