Imphal, December 30 2021:
Former chief minister O Ibobi has said that the state will soon witness a change in political scenario in both hills and valley when Congress returns to power after the 2022 state assembly election.
Attending a one-day political conference organised by Patsoi Block Congress Committee at Takyel Kolom Leikai ground here on Thursday, Ibobi called the present BJP-led government in the state as a government of propaganda, which declares numerous schemes/programmes just for publicity.
However, there is a big question on the actual implementation and benefits reaching the public.
While the public are supposed to rate whether a government is good or not, the BJP-led government is praising itself repeatedly.
The government has also made democracy meaningless with people who raise voice of dissent often sent to jail.
Press freedom has also declined under the BJP rule, he alleged.
In democracy, public are the supreme and they have the power to dethrone any government if they are not satisfied.
The 12th Manipur Legislative Assembly election will reflect the public sentiment and the public will give the right mandate, Ibobi said.
On the other hand, there is a misconception among the public that having the same government of the party in power at the Centre will prove beneficial for the state.
However, this is just a myth as India follows a federal structure under which the state will get its rightful share and the Centre cannot deny it, the CLP leader said.
Expressing firm belief that an exclusive Congress or Congress - led government will come after the 2022 election, Ibobi appealed to the people of Patsoi AC to support incumbent MLA Ak Mirabai in the forthcoming election.
In his address, former deputy CM Gaikhangam said that the state is in a crucial stage right now.
There is contractor-rule and supplier-rule' in the state, he claimed while criticising the BJP government for misleading the public.
The 2022 state assembly election should not be taken lightly as this election will decide the fate of the state.
INC is the only party which can protect the state and the party will return to power soon, he said.
Mirabai spoke on development initiatives taken up in the constituency in the last 10 years and how the constituencylag behind other constituencies in the past.
She charged the BJP government of faiSng to provide benefits of welfare schemes implemented by the Congress government.
The Centre had released Rs 3.33 crore fund for MGNREGS but the state government has failed to release the same to the rural local bodies.
The government is depriving the poor people of their wages.
Similarly, the government has failed to release fund for housing scheme, she alleged.
Manipur Pradesh Congress Committee president N Loken, MPCC working committee T Mangibabu and Patsoi Block Congress Committee president Laishram Kumar also attended the political conference.
'Eigi Punsi Khongchat', an autobiography of MLA Ak Mirabai, campaign song and a booklet highlighting her achievements during 2017 and 2021 were also released during the conference.
