Anti Leprosy Day: Sparsh Leprosy Awareness Campaign commenced at CCpur, Thoubal

In view of the obsrvance of Anti Leprosy Day across the country, the day was also observed at Churachandpur district hospital, today, under the aegis of District Health Society, Churachandpur.
Chief guest of the ceremony, DC Shyam Lal Poonia stressed on the need to follow the path of humanity as showed by Mahatma Gandhi by looking after those suffering from Leprosy.
He appealed all stakeholders to come together in eradicating the diseases as well as the social stigma and discrimination.
The dignitaries along with the people gathered for the occasion pledged to root out Leprosy from Churachandpur district.
The people also witnessed the commencement of Sparsh Leprosy Awareness Campaign in Churachandpur, a nation wide campaign to sensitize and aware the public on Leprosy.
The campaign, organised under National Leprosy Elimination Programme, will continue till February 13 .
A skit showing various aspects associated with Leprosy, misconceptions, right approach, proper treatment was performed by students of GNM nursing College, Churachandpur.
IEC materials in local dialect was also launched as part of the programme.
The event was also attended by CMO Dr Kimngaihching Simte, District Leprosy Officer, Dr Kimneihlam, District Social Welfare Officer, DPM Zenngaihlun among others.
Meanwhile, as part of the nationwide Sparsh Leprosy Awareness Campaign (SLAC) 2018, a campaign was also launched for Churachandpur district at Thoubal district at National Health Mission conference hall of Chief Medical Officer complex, Thoubal Wangmataba today.
The awareness campaign which will continue till February 13, was organised by National Leprosy Eradication Programme and District Health Society Thoubal.
Lourembam Gram Panchayat Pradhan Khoirom ongbi Sanahanbi Devi, CMO Thoubal Dr N Jayantakumar Singh and District Programme Manager of DHS Thoubal Ch Basanta Singh attended the event as dignitaries.
Explaining the aim of the campaign, District Leprosy Officer Thoubal Dr kh Homeshwar said that the awareness campaign will be conducted at 13 different Primary Health Centres of the district.
With a view to sensitize the people on Leprosy and the measures to eradicate the disease, various IEC activities will be conducted during the campaign and a medical drive will also be conducted at each and every houses in UPHC Phouden to identify any cases of Leprosy, the officer said.
The campaign, he added, aims to spread awareness to the public about the disease, ongoing steps and measures of eradication, initial stage of symptoms, social stigma towards Leprosy victims etc.
According to WHO, around 2,12,000 of the world's population were reported for Leprosy, out of which 1,27,326 cases came from India.
