Imphal, November 29 2023:
Despite various proposals and representations submitted to the department concerned, the state government has not been able to provide relief funds to those farmers who have been affected by the present crisis as well as those unable to take up agricultural activities, stated Manipur Loumi Lup general secretary H Ibobi.
Speaking in a discussion programme for farmers on the topic "Government Initiative for the Development of Agriculture, Horticulture, Irrigation and Cooperative" organised by Manipur Loumi Lup at Manipur Press Club, here, on Tuesday, Ibobi explained that the discussion programme has been organised with the primary objective of understanding what measures have been taken up by the government for the welfare of the farmer community and what the food producers have received.
Ibobi further said that even though the horticulture department distributed crop seeds to the farmers many were denied the same.
Moreover, the agriculture department is taking up various welfare programmes but the farmers are unaware of the same.
There are various loopholes within the department and it is time to address such anomalies and help the farmers avail benefits entitled to them, he stressed.
Further noting that due to crisis situation in the state, many farmers are unable to till their fields and carry out agricultural activities, the general secretary expressed strong resentment that in-spite of representations submitted for providing relief funds to farmers affected by the crisis the state government has failed to address suffering of the farmers till this date.
The discussion programme was also attended by Lup president N Singhajit, working president S Nilakanta and vice president U Rajmohon as presidium members.
MOMA project officer Kh Nimaichand, horticulture AO N Sunil Singh, Manipur Cooperative Society deputy registrar Oinam Jiten Singh and minor irrigation assistant engineer Maibam Premeshwar were also present at the programme.
