Imphal, November 28 2024:
A large number of womenfolk staged a protest demonstration at Kanto on the road leading to Leimakhong from Kanto Sabal today.
Since November 26, the womenfolk have been protesting demanding the authorities to find out the whereabouts of Laishram Kamalbabu and to rescue him alive.
Laishram Kamalbabu works as a works supervisor for a contractor working with Military Engineering Services at the Leimakhong military station.
He went to Leimakhong military station on November 25 but did not return in the evening.
The gate logs showed Kamalbabu had entered the military station but did not exit.
It is suspected that he was abducted by Kuki militants from inside the military station.
On the other hand, Social Welfare Minister H Dingo who is also the local MLA along with some JAC members met the Chief Minister and placed their demand for immediate intervention of the Chief Minister, the Governor and the DGP and prompt action so as to ensure safe return of Kamalbabu.
Talking with this reporter over telephone, one JAC member stated that the Chief Minister had assured to fulfil the demands placed by the JAC through a memorandum.
"We will continue the protest at Kanto Sabal and hold a meeting to decide the next course of agitation if our deadline fixed for tomorrow for handing over Kamalbabu alive is not fulfilled", the JAC member said.
After the meeting with the Chief Minister, H Dingo went to Kanto Sabal where the womenfolk have been staging a protest demonstration for the past three days.
Speaking to the protesters, H Dingo said that disappearance/abduction of a civilian from inside a fortified military station is a matter of utter shame for the army.
Pointing out that Laishram Kamalbabu went to the Leimakhong military station every day for works with due permission of the army, the Social Welfare Minister asserted that the GOC, 57 Mountain Division must put in his best efforts and find the missing man at all costs.
He also hailed the High Court of Manipur's notice sent to the 57th Mountain Division GOC and the DGP to find Kamalbabu.
Saying that reports would be sent to the Prime Minister, the Defence Minister and the Union Home Minister on the issue, Dingo appealed to all the people to continue with the protest until Kamalbabu is returned safely.
