MLA calls for uprooting social malaises

Expressing concern over widespread drug abuse among the youth, Keirao MLA and PDA chairman Lourembam Rameshwar stressed the need for saving the society from drugs and called upon clubs and Meira Paibi groups to shoulder responsibilities in stopping sale of drugs and intoxicants.
Speaking at the inauguration of newly constructed building of Youth Social Club, Kyamgei on Friday, MLA Rameshwar noted with regret that apart from increase in number of abusers of intoxicants including liquor, banned pharmaceutical drugs and prescribed medicines, substance abusers could be seen loitering in every locality.
Accordingly, time has come for clubs and Meira Paibi organisations to take collective responsibility particularly at the local level to save the society from complete degradation.
He also expressed remorse over recent report of women including girls caught for drug trafficking and stealing poultry birds while calling upon all sections of the society to contribute their mite in reversing the grave trend as police alone could not tackle such social malaises.
The MLA appealed to the people including farmers to work hard to improve economy and keep empty fields green throughout the year.
According to MLA Rameshwar, the nearly two years of violence has severely affected economy of the state apart from hindering developmental project.
Nevertheless, development works in Keirao assembly constituency continue in phased manner with funds available, he said and assured to complete pending road and bridge projects in his assembly constituency.
The event was also attended by Youth Social Club president Oinam Rajen Singh, club founders Khoirom Ibohal, Deven Thingujam, Nameirakpam Khomba, Sukham Bhumeshwar, Khoirom Binodkumar and others.
