Workshop on Medicinal plants begins

Imphal, November 27 2013:
A three-day long National workshop on 'Sustainable Management and Commercialization of Medicinal and Aromatic Plants' being jointly organized by Manipur State Medicinal Plants Board (MSMPB) and CSIR North East Institute of Science and Technology (NEIST) , Branch Laboratory under the sponsorship of National Medicinal Plants Board, New Delhi commenced from today at the office of CSIR-NEIST, Lamphelpat.
The inauguration function was attended by Phungzathang Tonsing, Health and Family Welfare Minister as Chief Guest; Dr Suhel Akhtar, Principal Secretary of Health and Family Welfare as President while Dr BG Unni, Chief Scientist of CSIR-NEIST, Jorhat; Dr L Promila Devi, Member Secretary, MSMPB and Dr H Birkumar Singh, Principal Scientist, CSIR as Guests of Honour.
Speaking on the occasion, Phungzathang Tonsing opined that forest, being one of the most important assets of human mankind, should be preserved and protected.
Dr BG Unni informed that the CSIR will try to produce natural medicinal plants in Manipur as varieties of medicinal plants are found in the State.
As a part of the programme, medicines extracted from various medicinal plants by Sidha Hidak Herbal Industry were exhibited.
