IFM earnest on saving agri land

With an aim to stop misuse agricultural land in the for other purposes, Irabot Foundation Manipur is all set to organize a public meeting on August 1 at MDU.
Addressing media persons in this regard at its office in Singjamei today, President of the Foundation Th Iboyaima informed that the total area of Manipur is 22,327 sq km out of which 20,047 sq km of area are hills and the remaining 2,238 sq km of area are plains.
Around 739 people settle in an area of 1 sq km in the plains whereas just 53 people in the same area in the hills.
He pointed out that in this small area of land available in the plains where people live in congestion, there are also various land areas fit for cultivation.
But the government, instead of providing irrigation facilities increase agricultural production, is hell bent on converting these agricultural lands into residential or industrial areas.
So, in order to save these agricultural lands from being misused, IFM has decided to conduct a public meeting on August 1 at MDU hall and bring awareness among the people of the State on the importance of protecting agricultural lands so that the State can become self sufficient in food production, he informed.
