Ukhrul holds candle light vigil for peace

People from different walks of life came together on Tuesday to make an appeal for peace at a candle light vigil organized by Tangkhul netizens at Gandhi Chowk in Ukhrul.
On Tuesday afternoon, the Tangkhul on Facebook group staged a candle light vigil inviting school children and residents from the town to show their desire and longing for peace in Ukhrul, which in recent time has been rocked by bomb blasts.
An appeal for peace was shown in posters, banners, prayers and messages-as all the participants in the programme echoed the same voice.
Towards the end of the session, people placed candles on the circular ring of Gandhi Chowk after they exchanged bonhomie to one another.
"�youths and especially members of the Tangkhuls on Facebook condemn any form of killings and bombings that have caused untold miseries and express heartfelt sympathy to the victims�" read a press communiqu� issued by the organizers.

In just over two-month time, the small hill town has experienced eight bomb explosions.
Musicians belted out songs that carry message of peace and love.
Sothingam Shaiza sang a global hit "Heal the World", written by Michael Jackson and Lionel Richie, much to the delight of the crowd and was so thematic for the evening.
Local crooner Theithei Luithui also strummed and sang her number.
Phungyo Baptist Church pastor Rev.Thanmi HA spoke to the crowd quoting Biblical references on peace and love.
Prayers were also said by Rev.Arthur Khamrang and Phungreishang Kashung.
While Aran Chihui led the candle light vigil service, the Tangkhuls on Facebook activist Tennoson Pheiray delivered the press release that appeals for peace in Ukhrul town.
