CEO PC Lawmkunga to be Observer in Myanmar Polls

At the request of Myanmar government for sending two Official Observers from India, Government of India has recommended Chief Electoral Officer (CEO) of Manipur PC Lawmkunga to be one of the observers in the upcoming Myanmar Parliamentary by-election.
Explaining the reason for the recommendation, a reliable source said that the India government recommended PC Lawnkunga as one of the two Indian observers after studying his conduct and service as CEO in the recent General Elections to the 10th Manipur Legislative Assembly.
The other observer which India would be sending to Myanmar is CEO of Assam Maninder Singh.
They would leave for Myanmar in the next two or three days, the source disclosed.
Myanmar government is inviting observers from different countries to show to the world that election in Myanmar is conducted free and fair.
The election is set to be held on April 1 in 48 Parliamentary Constituencies.
It may be mentioned that Myanmar requested India to send two Official observers and three media persons to observe the parliamentary election in the country.
Meanwhile, CEO Lawmkunga told reporters that he is glad to be recommended as an observer of the parliamentary election of Myanmar, where democracy has remained overshadowed by the rule of Military Junta since long.
National League for Democracy (NLD) would also be contesting in the election this time to restore democracy in the country under the close watch of international bodies and different countries.
