Imphal, August 25 2024:
Around 10 persons displaced by the ongoing violence and currently taking shelter in the relief camp opened at Manipur Trade & Expo Centre, Lamboi Khongnangkhong in Imphal West district are fighting for life with chronic diseases.
Upon learning about medical inconveniences faced by internally displaced persons (IDPs) at the relief Camp, RD & PR minister Yumnam Khemchand took the initiative in conducting a medical camp at the relief camp on Saturday and provided medical facilities including medicines to the displaced persons.
A displaced person informed The People's Chroni cleon the sidelines that many medical camps were con ducted at the relief camp in the past but left after health check-up and paper work.
However, the medical camp on Saturday under initiative of minister Khemchand provided necessary medicines to families living in the relief camp.
Uniqueness of the medical camp on Saturday was that a health survey for families at the relief camp was conducted first and then provided necessary medicines based on diseases the displaced people are suffering, the displaced person said and expressed gratitude to the organisers particularly minister Khemchand.
According to the displaced person, around 10 persons staying in the relief camp are suffering from different chronic diseases including cancer and kidney ailment and their families are facing untold suffering.
Government's honorarium of Rs 100 per displaced person for one day is too meagre to meet daily requirements and it would better if the honorarium is increased to at least Rs 150, the displaced person suggested.
Regarding the medical camp, minister Khemchand told The People's Chronicle that he contacted some doctors known to him to help the displaced persons in the relief camp and requiring medical attention.
Majority of medicines provided to suffering 'displaced persons during the medical camp were supplied from my side and state health department too extended help, Khemchand said adding that a total of 28 doctors including eight super specialists attended to patients at the medical camp.
He then thanked the doctors and medical officers for their sincere service.
Notably, more than 700 members of 173 families displaced by the violence are currently taking shelter in the relief camp.
Opening function of the medical camp was also attended by Thanga MLA T Robindro and Imphal West DC Th Kirankumar Singh.
