5th RBC meeting held for better ties between India and Myanmar

To further enhance the understanding and cooperation between both the neighbouring countries, the 5th Indo-Myanmar Regional Border Committee meeting between India and Myanmar was held here today.
During the meeting, the Indian delegation was led by Lt Gen SL Narasimhan, AVSM, VSM, GOC 3 Corps and comprised members from Ministries of Defence, Home Affairs and External Affairs while the Myanmar delegation was headed by Maj Gen Min Naung, Commander North West Command" .
Addressing the delegates, Lt Gen Narasimhan said it was a matter of great pride and delight to host the 5th Regional Border Committee meeting at Imphal and observed that, "India and Myanmar with their rich historical and cultural ties have developed a unique close relationship over the years" .

He went on to say that the memorandum of understanding (MoU) signed between the Governments of the two neighbouring countries on on Border Cooperation Agreement on May 8 2014 amplifies the close relationship and the resolution to carry forward bilateral relations.
"Therefore, such meetings contribute immensely in strengthening our friendly bonds, mutual trust and cooperation", the leader of the Indian delegation added.
In his address, Maj Gen Min Naung thanked the Indian delegation as well as friendly people of Manipur for their warm welcome and wished for continued progress and prosperity in years to come.
He said that, "we share a long common border and have close affinity with historical, cultural and religious background.
We always think of India as a true friend" .
During the course of meeting a number of issues of common interest were discussed.
The forthright and frank discussions reflected a high degree of commitment by delegates of both sides which is bound to further cement the friendly ties.
"I am confident that together we will be able to bring peace, prosperity and also a better future to this region," said Indian delegate leader Lt Gen SL Narasimhan, AVSM, VSM in his closing remarks.
He added that, "these fruitful discussions will further synergise our efforts of achieving higher cooperation and understanding in time to come", according to a statement issued by PRO, PIB Defence Wing, Imphal.
