Imphal, July 24 2014:
The 50-bedded hospital in Moreh town situated in Chandel District bordering Myanmar, which was inaugurated on 26 January 2006 by the then Health & Family Welfare Minister L. Nandakumar is at present infested with grievances in almost all fronts, asserted L.Tomba Singh, Vice President of Meitei Council Moreh.
Out of the 21 doctors supposed to be posted at the hospital, there are only 4 doctors including the M/O in charge, he cited while pointing out that as soon as any more doctor or nurse is posted at the hospital, the transfer order is stayed for obvious reasons.
He said it is time to teach a lesson to the doctors and nurses who strive to have convenient posting places.
While observing that a number of staff of various departments do not attend offices at far off places in Manipur, even when their transfer orders are issued by the government, L.Tomba added that the state government must understand the reason for its being detested by the people in hill areas.
In the midst of innumerable grievances of the Moreh hospital, there is apprehension that the MO in charge who has been in hectic schedule to attend OPDs as well as night duties may contend to leave the hospital, Tomba pointed out.
A staff meeting of the hospital attended by Doctors, Nurses and other staff held on 20 July last took the decision not to attend to emergency patients from 7am to 10 am and 3pm to 7pm daily, as long as the government fails to depute the requisite Doctors to the hospital.
Reminding that June-July every year is a hectic season for outbreak of various diseases in Moreh town, L.Tomba noted that at present there are numerous cases of viral fever and Diahhreoa infections among Moreh residents.
If the Moreh hospital is properly functioning, the inconveniences face by the patients from neighbouring Myanmar may also be reduced, he added.
On the other hand, Tomba wondered why the district hospital in Thoubal which was inaugurated very recently has become fully functional along with posting of doctors and nurses, while the hospital located just 110 kms from Imphal is lying with numerous grievances even after 8 years of its inauguration.
Meanwhile, Moreh Hospital staff on behalf of the Community leaders of Moreh appreciated the NRHM for providing medicine kits required for delivery and further urged to provide such kits to the hospital.
