Imphal, April 24 2020:
It is very 'unfortunate' that some MLAs in the State are trying to take political mileage out of the ongoing lockdown by hoodwinking a public that they will procure rice for them from their own pocket money when the MLA Local Area Development funds are meant for undertaking developmental works in his/her Constituency, said Communist Party of India, Manipur State Council in a statement today.
Pointing out that the State Cabinet had already authorised all MLAs to utilise Rs 25 lakh out of the MLADF in COVID-19 related relief measures, the party alleged that MLAs of Khurai and Lamlai ACs threw dust in the eyes of their electors by making them see the funds as their money.
CPI cannot stand a mere spectator when public raised a complaint of not getting the 5 kgs of rice promised by the Government, as in Khurai AC, it said, appealing the MLA concerned to distribute the promised rice to all who are above 5 years of age in the Constituency at the earliest.
It also appealed the State Government to solve the hardship being faced by the people in remote villages and hill district due to the lockdown.
