Imphal, January 24 2025:
Former chief minister and CLP leader O Ibobi has stated that a recent article published by a reputed USbased journalist group listing the violence in Manipur as one of the eight main conflicts to watch out in 2025 is blot on both BJP-led central and state governments.
On Friday, Manipur Pradesh Congress Committee (MPCC) organised a reception programme for the new office bearers of Manipur Pradesh Youth Congress (MPYC) at Congress Bhawan, BT Road.
In his speech, Ibobi left it to the people to decide whether the article published by a USbased journalist group, mentioning the Manipur crisis as one of the eight conflicts in the world needing resolution, is good or bad.
He, however, continued that the situation is not a good sign, as Manipur's problems are now a global issue.
It shows that the central and state BJP governments are no longer able to handle law and order, Ibobi stated, while questioning how the people are supposed to live in peace in su ch a situation.
He continued that the internally displaced persons (IDPs) are forced to stay another cold whiter in the relief camps and urged the party's youths to stand against the injustice brought on by the dictatorship of the central and state governments.
Reiterating the call for resolving the issue at hand, the former chief minister said: "Every society faces some issues or the other, but this is nothing to be afraid of and instead, all should work together to overcame the same".
He added that government is a continuation and if mistakes had been made in the past, it is natural to rectify them in the present.
However, dredging up past issues without taking any action is wrong.
Observing the changes in conducting elections, Ibobi said the use of advanced technology to prevent one from influencing the people's mandate is how it should be.
He then appealed to the new youth leaders to focus on ensuring justice is served with regard to the conflict, while promoting peace and love amongst all communities.
Meanwhile, MPCC president K Meghachandra congratulated the 73 new executives including youth leaders on their victory.
He continued that the election reflected the idea of Manipur, adding that majority of the new leaders are representing almost every community.
"Congress has and will continue to stand by the idea of Manipur", he said.
Meghachandra then advised all party workers to maintain discipline and adhere to the party's guidelines and ideology to attain the goal.
He said that all those who became leaders of this state owe credit to Congress, claiming that while leaders of other parties in other states have questionable backgrounds and conduct, Congress has no such problem.
Stating that political parties attack politically, he advised youth leaders not to plan any sort of arson attacks at other political parties' offices in the struggle to bring peace to the state.
Respect other parties although it may not be reciprocated.
Leaders should connect with other leaders", he remarked, while urging for concerted efforts in addressing challenges of the state.
During the function, which was attended by CWC member Gaikhangam, MLAs and other party leaders, the newly appointed president, vice president, secretaries of MPYC, and presidents and vice presidents of District Youth Congress (DYC) and Assembly Youth Congress were felicitated.
