Senapati, April 23 2013:
The All Naga Students Association, Manipur (ANSAM) said today that it is deeply concerned over the recent move of the Manipur state government to scrap additional English in lieu of MIL from its education policy.
"The ANSAM views this move very seriously.
The ANSAM is fully committed to the retention of Additional English in lieu of MIL in the system of Manipur judging by the present level of developedment of tribal dialects in Manipur.
Apart form a few tribes, there are many tribes of Manipur whose dialects are not even studied in Primary Level," the Naga students' body said.
"Therefore, ANSAM terms the recent move of the Manipur State Government as permature and a ploy to impose alien language on the unfortunate tribal populace," the Naga students' body said.
"While the ANSAM supports the development of the languages and dialects of Manipur, it will not tolerate any sinister plot of the state government undermine the democratic rights of the tribal peoples in pursuing education judging by the importance of English worldwide and the present level of development of the tribals dialects, it is not yet time for the removal of Additional English in lieu of MIL in the educational policy of Manipur," it added.
The ANSAM, therefore, urges the Manipur State Government to refrain from scraping Additional English in the interest of the tribals of Manipur.
"Implementation of wrong education policy can disrupt normalcy in Manipur," ANSAM warns.
