Imphal, November 22 2012:
The incentive awards which were promised by the Chief Minister and the Education Minister to Zenith Academy for bringing out topper as well as to Md Ismat for topping AISSE, 2011 conducted by CBSE have not yet been given so far.
Chief Minister O Ibobi Singh and Education Minister Moirangthem Okendro had earlier declared that the State Government would award a cash prize of Rs 5 lakh to Md Ismat for topping the AISSE, 2011 and another Rs 10 to Zenith Academy, the school which had nurtured him to excellence.
However, the State Government has not kept its promise.
The matter came to light during a brief interaction between media persons and S Manaoton, founder of Zenith Academy, on the sideline of a felicitation function hosted in his honour by teachers and staffs of school.
Manaoton had been recently feted by Aligarh Alumni Association, which is based in New York, along with presentation of a shawl and plaque, in appreciation of his dedication to students' welfare and more particularly the special care which he had provided to Md Ismat.
When asked how he felt when the State Government fails to keep its promise of giving incentive award to his student and institute, when he is being honoured even from America, S Manaoton stated, "It is indeed very appreciable on the part of the State Government to award sportspersons of the state for their exceptional performances in national and international events.
However, neglecting those who have done exceptionally well in the field of education is very unfortunate.
It is even more disheartening when the State Government fails to keep its promise" .
Receiving the cash incentive or not is not the issue.
What really matters is the impact it would have on the minds of the teachers and the attitude of the State Government towards education sector", Manaoton observed.
"We can make out who are going to participate in the next Olympic of Common Wealth Games or any other International event, but we can hardly predict whether students from Manipur are going to be among the first ten toppers in the next AISSE.
So, the indifferent attitude shown by the State Government to people in the field of education is really unfortunate", he added.
