Imphal, October 22 2012:
Museum Associate of Indira Gandhi Rashtriya Manav Sangrahalaya, Bhopal, Nongmaithem Sakmacha has stated that each community should set up their own museum in their respective villages as their culture may become extinct if they remain waiting for the government to do the work.
Speaking to Hueiyen Lanpao, Sakmacha said that museum is a public property and culture and tradition can be saved from extinction if we preserve our valuable cultural relics in museum.
So we should not wait for the government to do our work.
If we do not make efforts to preserve and promote our culture and tradition, it would become extinct one day as the elders pass away.
The role of museum in any society is enormous and there is a need to create awareness among the new generation, he said, while adding that apart from preserving the old culture and tradition of the community, having a museum in a village would generate more income to the local villagers.
