Govt approves 5 slaughter houses, 8 water ATM projects

Apart from discussing projects of different departments to be taken up with 60 percent state component of NEC budget for the financial year 2020-21, a meeting chaired by chief minister N Biren on Tuesday approved projects for construction of five slaughter houses in five districts and opening of water ATMs in eight districts.
The meeting approved Rs 9.90 crore for construction of one each slaughter house in Ukhrul, Senapati, Churachandpur, Imphal East and Imphal West districts and these slaughter houses would be kept and maintained in a hygienic way.
Veterinary doctors will inspect these slaughter houses and check meats before reaching consumers.
The meeting also approved Rs 4.22 crore for construction of water ATMs in Imphal East, Imphal West, Bishnupur, Thoubal, Senapati, Kakching, Chandel and Kangpokpi districts but the locations where these water ATMs would be installed are yet to be decided.
Anyone can purchase safe drinking water from these ATMs by dropping a coin.
As per a reliable source, the meeting also approved Rs 6.15 crore for taking up watershed management projects to ensure lasting livelihood means to people in Tengnoupal, Kamjong, Kangpokpi, Pherzawl, Ukhrul, Jiribam, Kakching, Imphal East, Imphal West, Thoubal and Bishnupur districts.
The NEC budget also has projects for replacing jhum and poppy cultivation in the hills with alternative farming and these projects will be taken up in Churachandpur, Pherzawl, Noney, Tamenglong, Senapati and Ukhrul districts.
Alternative farming will be initially taken up in Ukhrul, Kamjong, Tengnoupal and Chandel and Tuesday's meeting approved Rs 12.9 crore for the same.
Among the NEC projects include preparation of tree bean (Yongchak) and orange saplings in Tamenglong and Noney districts and Rs 3.96 crore has been approved for this project.
Other projects to be taken up with NEC budget in the state are procurement of 16 DR system X-ray machines and Rs 1.76 crore has been approved for it.
Procurement of 33 ambulances for maternity service and dairy farming for SC farmers are other projects and the meeting approved Rs 3.20 crore and Rs 14.26 crore respectively for the two projects.
