As toll rises, Kangpokpi CSOs extend lockdown

Kangpokpi, May 20 2021:
A stenographer and a pastor succumbed to COVID-19 on Thursday, taking the death toll from the pandemic to 24 in Kangpokpi district.
Lalthanglen Chongloi (41), son of (L) Sonmang Chongloi of Kangpokpi Ward No 2, a stenographer working under Sadar Hills Autonomous District Council, Kangpokpi died of the dreaded disease around 3:20 am.
The deceased's wife and children and a neighbour were also found positive and all have been admitted to COVID Care Centre, Leikop while others members are under home isolation.
The deceased was buried at Kangpokpi cemetery by volunteers of Kangpokpi Youth Union.
Kangpokpi Ward No 2 authority sealed the main road connecting the town with the ward following another death due to the COVID-19.There were two fatalities reported in Kangpokpi Ward No 2 during the second wave so far while another COVID death was reported in Kangpokpi Ward No 4 earlier.
Kangpokpi town alone has so far recorded three COVID deaths during the second wave.
The other victim, a pastor of P Khohthah village, Lensat Kipgen (58) succumbed to the COVID-19 at RIMS Imphal around 2:20 am on Thursday.
He was admitted to the hospital on May 19 and died on Thursday morning due to COVID-19, typhoid fever, acute respiratory distress syndrome.
With 10 more COVID positive cases detected in the past 24 hours and 14 recovered patients discharged on Thursday, the total number of active cases in the district now stands at 94.Meanwhile, Kangpokpi CSO COVID Task Force has extended the total lockdown in the district till May 31 due to rapid increase in positive cases.
The public notification issued by Thangtinlen Haokip, secretary Kangpokpi CSO COVID Task Force, stated that all village chiefs, village authorities, town committees and youth clubs are authorised to make their own local arrangements for basic and essential necessities for public convenience.
The Task Force also appealed to the public to be patient with the total lockdown in the district as it is for everyone's safety and advised all to stay home and stay safe.
Following extension of total lockdown in the district, the local bodies of Kangpokpi under the aegis of Kangpokpi Town Committee, which have been imposing total lockdown in the Kangpokpi town since May 7, have also extended the lockdown to May 31.L Kipgen, Chairman, Kangpokpi Town Committee in a public notice stated that Kangpokpi town is experiencing a continuous surge in COVID infections and in consonance with the district CSO COVID Task Force notification, the total lockdown in the town has been extended till May 31.The town committee chairman also instructed the president and secretary of Kangpokpi Auto Owner's Association to immediately stop plying of passengers auto rickshaws within and outside of the town in public interest.
According the town committee, government services, banking services, essential services and other emergency services, funeral, etc., will be exempted from the purview of the total lockdown but those exempted should follow strict COVID advisories.
