Imphal, December 19 2024:
Leaders and workers of Manipur Pradesh Congress Committee (MPCC) launched a protest rally from Congress Bhawan till Kangla gate, on Thursday, against Union Home Minister Amit Shah's remarks on BR Ambedkar, made in Rajya Sabha during the ongoing Parliament Winter Session.
During the protest rally, slogans such as "We condemn the disrespect and mocking of the Indian Constitution", "Union Home Minister Amit Shah who disrespected the Indian Constitution should resign", "We should respect the Indian Constitution", and "We condemn the remarks of Amit Shah" .
Speaking to reporters on the sidelines, MPCC president K Meghachandra asserted that Union Home Minister Amit Shah should apologise for mocking Dr BR Ambedkar, the architect of the Indian Constitution, during the ongoing Parliament session.
"If he refuses, Amit Shah should resign from his position as Home Minister," insisted Meghachandra.
He expressed regret over Amit Shah mocking the Indian Constitution, which is revered by every citizen of the country, and condemned his remarks in the strongest terms.
To protest this undemocratic behaviour, the MPCC has launched an agitation in front of Kangla Fort, he said.
Additionally, Meghachandra condemned the attitude shown by Amit Shah and BJP MPs towards AICC president Mallikarjun Kharge for speaking out against the Union Home Minister's undemocratic actions.
He called for appropriate action to be taken after a thorough investigation.
With placards and banners, the Congress workers raised slogans against Shah during the demonstration in front of Kangla Fort.
Earlier in the day, a face-off between the opposition and NDA MPs in Parliament premises over the alleged insult to Ambedkar injured former minister Pratap Chandra Sarangi.
The BJP accused Rahul Gandhi of pushing the senior member, a charge the Congress leader rejected.
The Congress also claimed that BJP MPs pushed Kharge and "physically manhandled" the leader of the opposition in the Lok Sabha.
