Family appeals to hand over arrested UG cadre to police

Thokchom Indrajit, father of the alleged underground militant who was reportedly apprehended by a team of Assam Rifles personnel on November 15 in a counter insurgency operation carried soon after an alleged encounter took place between Assam Rifles and underground militants near the Indo-Myanmar border village of Chamal, has pleaded the concerned authority to hand over his son to the State police at the earliest.
Speaking to media persons at Manipur Press Club today, Thokchom Indrajit, from Sugnu Wapokpi, said that his son Thokchom Ningthemba (20) left home some two years back to work as a handyman and remained out of touch with his family ever since.
Then recently on November 16, they came to know that Ningthemba hadbeen allegedly apprehended by AR personnel the previous day in a counter insurgency operation launched by security forces as a follow up of the encounter in which one AR personnel and an alleged UG cadre were killed.
He pointed out that there has been no report of handing over his son to the concerned Chakpikarong police station by the AR personnel in the last four days.
He also said that he along with the local Meira Paibis and CSO leaders met Sugnu ML A, K Ranjit and urged the MLA to intervene regarding the matter and the MLA had assured to do the needful.
Indrajit claimed that he also appealed to Chief Minister N Biren Singh to intervene and pressure the Assam Rifles to hand over his son, who is allegedly in their custody, to the police at the earliest as it has been more than four days.
Assam Rifles have failed to hand him over as per the law of the land till date, he added.
