CM commends police for tackling drug menace, pandemic

Imphal, October 19 2021: The 130th Raising Day of Manipur Police was celebrated at the Parade Ground of 1st Battalion Manipur Rifles here on Tuesday, with chief minister N Biren Singh attending as chief guest.

Cabinet ministers, MLAs, DGP and other top police officials also attended the function.

The chief minister took the salute from 16 march-past contingents consisting of combined Manipur Rifles (male), combined India Reserve Battalion male contingent No 1, combined India Reserve Battalion male contingent No 2, civil police Imphal West (male), civil police Imphal East (male), civil police Bishnupur (male), combined civil police (male), combined civil police male contingent hill district No.1, combined civil police male contingent hill district No 2, combined commando contingent, 9th India Reserve (Manila) Battalion, combined civil police Imphal East and Imphal West female contingent, home-guard male contingent, combined VDF male-contingent, traffic police women contingent and Manipur police dog squad Imphal East & Imphal.

Speaking on the occasion, N Biren extended his best wishes to all officials of Manipur police department and appreciated the state forces for their dedicated and disciplined services towards maintaining law and order and welfare of the public at large.

He continued that all sections of people should respect and honour police personnel as the latter had always been rendering services as and when needed in every circumstance.

Stating that law and order of the state has considerably improved with efficient functioning of the police department, he added that the public could now feel free and safe while moving anywhere across the state.

Mentioning the role of police in successful implementation of War against Drugs campaign of the state government, the chief minister maintained that the Narcotics and Affairs of Border (NAB) of Manipur police had been functioning with much effort to completely root out the drug menace in the state.

The government wouldn't compromise with any anti-national elements which would hinder the development of the state and would take all necessary actions according to the law of the land, he added.

N Biren stressed the need to enforce strict traffic rules as the state is witnessing many road accidents due to negligent driving.

He instructed the authorities concerned to start taking up actions against traffic rule violators.

He also urged the police department to be stricter within the ambit of relevant law while dealing with any law breakers, saying that it's needed in making our society a disciplined one.

He informed that Union home minister Amit Shah under the supervision of Prime Minister Narendra Modi has directed all the states to construct memorial parks for police in recognition of the role played by them in nation building and maintaining law and order.

Manipur Police Memorial Park, being constructed at 1st Battalion Manipur Rifles Complex to honour the supreme sacrifices of Manipur police, is near-ing completion and the same would be inaugurated soon by the Prime Minister or the home minister during their likely visit to the state.

The chief minister also appreciated the contribution made by Manipur police personnel during the government's fight against COVID-19 and in any other crucial time.

Delivering his speech, director general of police LM Khaute stated that Manipur police had always played a commendable role in maintaining law and order in the state.

He informed that Manipur police along with Indian army and paramilitary forces had conducted many counter insurgency operations and had helped bring certain members of underground organisations into the national mainstream.

The security environment of the state had now improved considerably, he added and continued that 263 extremists had been arrested and 13 neutralised while arms and ammunition consisting of 149 weapons, 2,783 assault ammunition, 75 hand grenades, 398 detonators, 3 kg explosive substances and other explosive materials among others were recovered.

Apart from this, large quantity of drugs had also been seized.

They include 36 kg of heroin, 841 kg of gan-ja, 479 kg of opium, 272 kg of brown sugar, around 9 lakh WY tablets, 18,710 SP capsules and more than 12,000 bottles of cough syrup among others, he further informed.

The police chief also appreciated the chief minister for his continuous guidance and support provided to the police department which had made certain achievements of the department possible.

The chief minister also distributed awards, trophies and commendations to police officers on the occasion.

T Lalboi Haokip, commandant 7th Battalion Manipur Rifles received the DGP running trophy for the best battalion 2021 with a cash reward of Rs 15,000 and a DGP commendation certificate; Dr Rashini Yengkhom, commandant 8th India Reserve Battalion, received second best battalion 2021 with Rs 10,000 cash and a DGP commendation certificate; and Thingnam Deshorjit, deputy commandant 8th Battalion Manipur Rifles, received third best battalion 2021 consisting a cash reward of Rs 5,000 and a DGP commendation certificate.

Inspector Kangjam Santosh Singh, officer-in-charge of Khongjom police station, received a cash reward of Rs 15,000 and a commendation certificate for best police station 2021; inspector Laishram Khogen Singh officer-in-charge Jiribam police station, received a cash reward of Rs 10,000 and a commendation certificate for second best police station 2021; inspector Maibam Sudhirkumar Meitei, officer-in-charge city police station, received a cash reward of Rs 5,000 and a commendation certificate; and inspector Hopeson Chiphang, officer-in-charge Shangshak police station, Ukhrul district, received the best police officer 2021 award with a cash reward of Rs 5,000 and a commendation certificate.

The DGP commendation roll and disc for different units were received by IGP (administration) IK Muivah, IGP (Zone-III) Lunsieh Kipgen, IGP (Zone-I & Zone-II) K Jayanta Singh, IGP (intelligence) K Radhashyam Singh, and Elangbam Priyokumar Singh, IGP (AP/Ops).

The chief minister also released a souvenir highlighting the various achievements of Manipur police department in the last one year.

Manipur Police Raising Day was also celebrated in all the police stations in Noney district with SP Ningshem Vashum hoisting the Manipur police at Noney Police Station while a Mega Marathon Race Competition was organised by Nungba Police Station from Rengpang Village to Nungba Bazar as a part of the celebration.

It was flagged off by Nungba police station OC inspector Th Nilamani Singh.

Altogether, 60 participants took part in the marathon race.

The raising day was also held at Khoupum and Khongshang police stations by organising various activities.

In connection with the celebration, Kakching District Police distributed eatables to the people at various areas of the district on Tuesday.

Under the aegis of SP Victoria Yengkhom, police personnel stationed of various police stations and out posts along with Cycle Patrol Unit distributed eatables to people in markets and other areas to celebrate the occasion.

Manipur Police Raising Day was also celebrated at Moreh police station with its officer in-charge Kh Dilipkumar and personnel lighting candles around the station's premises on luesday evening.
