The court of Additional Sessions Judge (FTC), Manipur East has granted interim pre-arrest bail to a 27-year old woman over a post on Facebook regarding the recent internet ban.
The woman, Sonia Rajkumari of Naoremthong Samushang Uku, shared her opinion on the internet ban in a post on Facebook.
On September 13, a police team from Imphal Police Station came to her home and asked her to come to the police station, apparently to put her under arrest.
Consequently, the woman filed an application to the court, which had granted her interim pre-arrest bail on September 17 .
In her application, the petitioner contended that her Face-book post did not contain anything that may incite communal violence or disturb peace or order.
Summoning her without any valid reason to the police station is violation of her fundamental rights and misuse of power by police, she said in her application.
The judge, after perusing her submission, granted her interim pre arrest bail on a bond of Rs 50,000 and a surety.
The court also directed police department to submit a detailed report by September 20 and also to deliver the same to the petitioner.
