Thoubal, September 18 2024:
Several organisations have condemned the controversial statement and alleged divisive remarks of chief minister N Biren blaming denizens of Thoubal, Heirok and Wangjing for the recent unrest in Imphal.
In separate media briefings on Wednesday, Thoubal Apunbagi Lup (TAL) and Thoubal Amasung Kakching District Apunba Lup (TAKDAL) stated such divisive statement from a chief minister underscored immaturity and lack of personality.
CM Biren spoke as if he is the chief minister of only Imphal.
Despite tireless efforts of the people of the district amid the conflict lingering for the last many months, the CM accusing people of the district of scheming to destabilise the government is unfortunate, they denounced, while adding that such remark is an attempt to divert the issue.
Regarding the arrest of 36 protestors during the recent rally at Kakwa, they clarified that only few were from Thoubal district.
The protest could have been controlled easily by the police but escalated due to mismanagement by the police force.
Moreover, putting the blame solely on Thoubal, Heirok and Wangjing denizens is uncalled for and seem intended to cover up government lapses.
The immature statement of CM has disheartened the people of Thoubal, Heirok and Wangjing, they lamented, while demanding clarification from the chief minister about his statement to the people.
Meanwhile, Meetei Community Joint Co-ordination Committee Waithou to Haokha & Thoubal Khunou also denounced chief minister N Biren for misleading the people as if protest was orchestrated by people of Thoubal, Wangjing and Heirok in Imphal for political purpose.
While pointing out that people of Thoubal, Wangjing and Heirok have been extending all possible help when Kukis attacked the Meetei, it questioned the agenda of Prime Minister Narendra Modi for not visiting Manipur though the conflict has spanned more than 16 months.
The release urged both state and central government to work sincerely in fighting against the attempt of Kuki narco-terrorists to destroy the unity of Manipur.
