Imphal, September 18 2013: A rifleman engaged as driver of a school bus of 5th Manipur Rifles allegedly attempted to rape a seven-year-old minor girl inside the school bus in Tamenglong district.

The incident took place on September 12 and the alleged accused identified as L Iboyaima Singh (38), rifleman no.05006253 of 5th Manipur Rifles posted at Tamenglong district headquarters has been arrested, a police source said Monday.

The accused hailing from Khurai Ningthoubung Leikai of Imphal East district was the driver of the unit bus in the transportation of wards of MR personnel to school.

A complaint lodged by the father of the victim minor, Chunliangpou (32) who also serves as rifleman in the same unit alleged that his 7 year-old daughter was molested before attempting to rape her while the bus was parked near the Tamenglong DC bungalow on Thursday, around 3.30 pm. Based on the complaint, police at Tamenglong district headquarters picked up the alleged accused and booked him.
