Senapati, March 18 2021:
Don Bosco College (Autonomous) Maram organised a 'Drug Abuse Prevention Programme' to impart awareness on 'Prevention on Drug abuse' among the people of Maram and nearby villages.
The awareness programme was conducted from March 15-18, 2021 .
With the aim to prevent the youth from the harmful effects of drugs, the students of Department of Commerce (Management) of DBC Maram in collaboration with National Service Scheme put up a street play with the theme "War on drugs" under the leadership of Sr Sweta William CCV, Th Shyamsunder and John Britto.
Prior to the street play, more than 3000 students of the college participated in the 'Mega Rally' to extend their support to Chief Minister, N Biren Singh's 'War on drugs' mission to prevent cross-border drug trafficking and rooting of large-scale opium cultivation in the State.
Sr Flora Kujur flagged off the rally and Fr Sunny Minj delivered a speech on the eradication of drug abuse and substance addiction from the Maram area.
Through the street play, the students tried to portray the traumatic life of a drug addict and the emotionally shattering experience the family of an addict has to go through.
The idea is to dissuade impressionable youth from the fake glamour of drugs culture.
The Drug prevention programmes aim at the people who have already tried drugs or who are considered 'at-risk' youth.
Alphose, a village representative shared his view on the occasion where he invited the college students to be the agents of change and transformation for the society.
Fr Dr KO Sebastian, the Principal of the college encouraged the students to continue their efforts for mass awareness.
Minorca Chanu, the HOD of Commerce Department proposed a vote of thanks.
It may be mentioned that the students will continue to perform street play on roadside, market places and crowded places of Maram Centre, Maram Bazar, Lairouching Senapati Market and Kangpokpi Market.
