Daughter denies allegation of mother killed by father

Imphal, December 17 2023:
Daughter of Shijagurumayum ongbi Romita has denied the accusations levelled by her mother's maternal family that she (Romita) was killed by her father.
Addressing media persons at Manipur Press Club, here, on Sunday, Shijagurumayum Roshni, who is the daughter of late Romita, said that there was no incidence of quarrel between her mother (Romita) and father Bidyananda on December 5, the day her mother committed suicide.
Recounting the suicide incident, Roshni said she was in the h ouse the whole day on December 5.As usual, her mother and her brother were going through their daily activities in the house.
Around 3 pm, her father and brother went out of home while her mother left for Singjamei.
After some time, her mother returned and went inside her room telling her (daughter) that she was not feeling well and locked the door from inside.
Roshni further recalled that around 7 pm, her father knocked the door and called Romita, who opened the door before getting inside her room again.
Suddenly, her father raised an alarm and she went out to enquire what happened only to find her mother hanging from the ceiling fan.
She and her father tried to take her down and in the process her mother's head hit the ground and got injured.
She was immediately rushed to the hospital but succumbed to head injuries.
Therefore, the allegation that her father killed her mother is baseless, she reasoned.
Romita's mother-in-law Tamphamani, who was also present at the press conference, said that since she went to her daughter's place on the fateful day, she was not aware of the incident.
If at all her daughter-in-law had consulted her of any problem, things the unwanted incident would have not occurred, she opined.
While lamenting that Romita's body is still at JNIMS morgue, she expressed that as the post mortem report has declared it was a case of suicide, it would be the right step to hand over the body to her husband's family for conduct of her last rites.
It may be mentioned that Bidyananda is still in police custody in connection with the suicide incident.
