Imphal, July 17 2015 :
Sit-in protests continued in many parts of the State on Friday demanding Inner Line Permit System (ILPS) to regulate entry of non-locals into Manipur, apart from demanding the Government to withdraw the FIR filed against late Sapam Robinhood and other student protesters by the police.
Sapam Robinhood (16), a Class XI student of Ananda Singh Higher Secondary School, Imphal, was killed in police crackdown during ILP protest on July 8 .
However, the police have filed an FIR against him and other students who were taking part in the protest that claimed his life, according to his family.
They said the police have also booked them under IPC section 147, 148, 149, 353 and 7 criminal law amendment acts for "rioting by using dangerous weapons" .
Members of Apunba Manipur Matam Ishei Kanglup, Manipur (AMMIK) demonstrated at Sagolband Lukram Leirak.
On the sidelines, Organisation secretary B Netachandra Sharma told journalists that AMMIK has also joined the extensive public agitation to demand ILPS.
He demanded the Government to implement ILP or a similar legislation to control influx of non-locals into the State without delay.
Netachandra said Manipur is now on boil as a consequence of the apathetic attitude of the State Government towards the public demand for a tougher restriction to non-locals in order to safeguard the interests of the indigenous people.
The Government should tackle the prevailing situation with utmost care for a positive outcome, he said and insisted that the people are not ready to accept the attempt of the police to criminalise Sapam Robinhood under various Acts.
Popular Manipuri singer Naba Volcano demanded that the Government should immediately withdraw all charges and FIR filed against Robinhood who had sacrificed his life for the cause of the people of Manipur.
Sit-in protests were also staged at Sagolband Bijoygovinda, Yaiskul Chingakham, Yaiskul Police Lane, Wangkhei Tokpam Mamang Leikai and several other places of the State.
The demonstrators demanded the Government to punish all police personnel involved in the killing of Sapam Robinhood and take up steps for the implementation of ILPS in the State.
