Imphal, November 16, 2012:
Manipur People's Party (MPP) has once again declared that it would not accept any ethnic based or communal demand which would disturb the territorial integrity of Manipur.
Speaking to some media persons at their office today, MPP president S Umananda asserted that protection of territorial integrity and ensuring peace and harmony among different communities in Manipur is enshrined in the party's constitution.
The demand for integration of Naga inhabited areas and the demand to carve out a separate Kuki State are direct challenges to the integrity of Manipur.
MPP would always stand firm against all such demands.
The recent political manoeuvres made by different players including the Government of India are highly condemnable.
Whereas the protracted political dialogue between Government of India and NSCN-IM is unable to arrive at any pragmatic solution, the so called peace process has been repeatedly provoking other communities.
It appears that the peace process, is only setting an example for other communities to follow suit, Umananda noted.
Both the State Government and Government of India must act most tactfully so that the ongoing peace process with Kuki UG groups and Naga militants are brought to their logical conclusions without hurting interest of other communities or compromising the territorial integrity of Manipur.
Stating that the bandh called by the Kuki State Demand Committee from November 17 evening on all important national highways and state highways would cause untold misery to common people, Umananda appealed to call off the proposed bandh.
