Displaced people urge Government to end conflict

Imphal, October 16 2023: Expressing their desire to return home, displaced folks from different parts of Imphal East and Churachandpur sheltering at Rajarshi Bhagyachandra Skill Development Center (RBSDC) Relief Camp, Haraorou, Imphal East have urged the State Government to bring an end to the ongoing conflict.

The displaced folks expressed this sentiment during a farewell programme organised at RBSDC Relief Camp hall as the inmates prepared to shift to the newly constructed prefabricated temporary houses at Sawombung in Imphal East today, said a statement issued by Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh, Manipur Prant.

Notably, the RBSDC Relief Camp was jointly set up by Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS), Seva Bharati Manipur and Manipur Seva Samiti along with the support of local clubs on July 17 .

Speaking on the occasion, one Konsam Sanajaoba from Sadu Lampak, Imphal East shared that his house was set ablaze by people of the other community.

After hearing about the RBSDC Relief Camp, he along with his 7 family members sought refuge here.

Highlighting the hardships of life at relief camps and the unstable state of affairs in Manipur, he urged the relevant authorities to restore normalcy in the State as the people are suffering and wish to return to their homes.

Meanwhile, one Mayengbam Sanamacha Devi from Sadu Yengkhoman has pointed out the skill development training imparted to the inmates during their stay.

"All inmates at RBSDC relief camp, including six of my family members, have learned skills that will help us earn a livelihood in the future", said the hopeful inmate.

On the occasion, Laishram Jatra Singh, Executive Member, RSS Manipur Prant extended his best wishes to the inmates as they prepared to shift to the temporary homes at Sawombung.

As a part of the event, a sum of Rs 2000 along with essential commodities were handed over to every displaced family.

It may be noted that RSS in association with various other organisations has provided numerous skill development training such as weaving, bamboo products, candle, incense sticks and bag making, mushroom cultivation etc to the inmates of RBSDC Relief Camp which consists of 25 families (124 persons) who have fled from Ikou, Leitanpokpi, Sadu Yengkhuman and Sadu Lampak in Imphal East and Beijang in Churachandpur district.

RSS is also planning to kick off a training programme for shoes, school bags and school uniform making for women inmates in association with Romi Bag Industry and Seva Bharati Manipur at RBSDC Relief Camp and to further set up a production unit here.

Lastly, a free coaching centre will also be launched at the relief centre under the supervision of Seva Bharati.

RSS in collaboration with Siksha Vikash Samiti Manipur has successfully provided free education to 80 students from various relief camps at Bal Vidya Mandir, Palace Compound and another 400 students at different schools in Uttar Pradesh, Uttarakhand, Gujarat, Maharashtra, Karnataka and Madhya Pradesh, shared the statement from RSS Manipur Prant.
