CM promises ministerial berths for Tangkhul MLAs
Source: Chronicle News Service

Ukl/Jbm, February 16 2022: Chief Minister N Biren Singh has promised to provide ministerial berths to Tangkhul MLAs in the event of the voters electing BJP candidates from Ukhrul, Chingai and Phungyar assembly constituencies in the ensuing assembly election.

CM Biren on Wednesday attended the flag hoisting cum campaign kick-off programme of BJP candidate from Ukhrul AC Somatai Shaiza in Ukhrul town.

He was accompanied by Rajya Sabha MP and titular king Leisemba Sanajaoba and Assam minister and Manipur election in-charge Ashok Singhal.

CM Biren hoisted the flag at Somatai Shaiza's residence in Alungtang.

Later, to mark the election campaign kick-off, a public meeting was organised at Mission ground, Alungtang which is also the venue of the ongoing Luira Phanit, seed-sowing festival of Hunphun village.

Addressing the crowd, CM Biren said, "It is my appeal to all voters of Ukhrul, Chingai and Phungyar ACs to vote for our party candidates and make them your representatives in the coming elections" .

He urged the voters to make a pledge to ensure that Tangkhul MLAs in BJP party are elected in the coming polls.

"Then, I assure you that this time around, Tangkhul MLAs will get ministerial berths.

I will take full responsibility for this," CM Biren conveyed.

He nevertheless stated that failing to elect any BJP MLAs would mean loss of a ministerial berth from the Tangkhul community.

Campaigning for Somatai Shaiza, the chief minister further urged the voters of Ukhrul AC to vote for the party candidate.

"Elect our brother Somatai Shaiza and I promise, I will invite PM Modi and bring him to Ukhrul district to attend the Shirui Lily celebration," he assured.

Stating that the politics of BJP is humanity service, N Biren explained that the party believes in collective growth and development of all sections of the society.

"My politics is humanity service, my party politics is humanity service and our PM Modi's politics is humanity service.

This is clearly reflected in our PM's 'Sab-ka Saath, Sabka Vikaas, Sabka Vishwas', which means being together, for everyone's growth, with everyone's trust," he noted.

Highlighting the party's achievements, Biren said that his government has earmarked Rs 88 crore for the development of the district's lone government college William Pettigrew College.

He informed that construction work worth Rs 28 crore to develop the college has started, while adding that commencement of other segments of the work is being put on hold due to the enforcement of the Model Code of Conduct.

N Biren went on to inform that the state government under the leadership of PM Modi, is targeting to provide tap water to each and every household by December this year.

Earlier in the day, the chief minister attended the flag hoisting ceremony cum meeting of Nameirakpam Budhachandra, who is the BJP candidate for Jiribam assembly constituency.

In his address, Biren said that Jiribam being a border district and important gateway for Manipur needs to be developed as a model district and this could be possible when people of the district elect a sincere leader like Budhachandra.

Addressing the gathering at Uchathol playground in Jiribam; Biren maintained that politics in the name of community will not last long and politicians should work on the philosophy of living together with harmony.

He also claimed that Manipur is now peaceful when compared to state's law and order situation in the past five years as is evident from Meira Paibi activists able to have sound sleep in their homes.

Referring to development works done by BJP government in Jiribam district, Biren said that Jiribam-Imphal helicopter service is now operational and two transit accommodation centres for teachers and doctors have been constructed.

He also said that condition of the Jiribam-Imphal road has improved significantly and two key bridges along the highway have been constructed and inaugurated recently.

He also informed about sanction of Rs 400/500 crore for land acquisition for widening Imphal-Jiribam road and earmarking Rs 114 crore for improvement of Jiri-Tipaikumkh road.

The flag hoisting ceremony cum public meet was also attended by Assam minister and election co-in-charge of Manipur Ashok Singhal, ex-minister A Biren Singh, MP Leishemba Sanajaoba, party leaders and local elected representatives.
