Imphal, January 16 2025:
The Joint Action Committee (JAC) formed over the death of Md Shahnawas Khan of Kairang Tera Makhong has resolved not to claim the body until an understanding is arrived at on the abduction and subsequent death of Shahnawas.
The JAC also served a 24-hour deadline to put in the public domain circumstances leading to his death.
Addressing the media at Progressive Youth Association (PYA), Kairang ground on Thursday, convenor Ab Rahman said that the JAC was formed during a public meeting held earlier in the day.
The meeting also resolved not to claim the body until the matter is resolved, and to launch intense agitation if the government fails to provide a positive response to their demands including handing over the case to NIA.

He said that Shahnawas was abducted from near an eatery at Kairang Tera Makhong by unknown persons on Tuesday around 6.45 pm.
Later around 9.57 pm, the abductors called his wife through his phone and asked to bring Rs 5 lakh to Andro if she wants him alive.
On Wednesday around 5.45 pm, police informed the family that his body is lying at Thoubal district hospital.
With reference to a clarification statement from AT Unit 2, Andro, the convenor questioned the clarification and the allegation against the victim.
While the AT statement contended that he was pulled up by some persons using the name of AT Unit 2 on the charge of abusing drugs, a police statement said that they have arrested six members of AT in connection with the case, he pointed out.
The convenor termed the hasty clarification by AT Unit 2 even before the family members pointed fingers to any organisation or individual as a deliberate act of diverting the blame from the organisation.
He demanded stringent action against the AT Unit 2 to prevent similar incidents in future and also to divulge information surrounding the circumstances leading to the death of Shahnawas within 24 hours.
Ab Rahman strongly refuted the allegation that Shahnawas pushed drugs stating that he was a driver who led a simple life.
He further demanded the government to hand over the case to the NIA .
