YFPHR decries mob justice

Youth's Forum for Protection of Human Rights is disappointed by the practice of mob justice allegedly by the local club and Meira Paibi of Khabam Lamkhai, Imphal East which "ostracized" a particular household headed by women, said the forum in a statement issued by its president Kh Phajaton today.
"Taking advantage of no male members in the household, the local club and Meira Paibi of Khabam Lamkhai ostracised the particular household by locking the door and not allowing a single member of the household to enter the house," alleged the human rights forum and said that it will be writing a letter to the National Commission for Women and Ministry of Women and Child Development, New Delhi regarding the incident.
The resolution to ostracise the family members was signed by the "chair holders of the local club and Meira Paibi concerned", it said.
The victim family members were also restricted to perform ritual rites like "Asti and Din" of their lost mother by their "uncle", it alleged.
The forum also strongly condemned the lynching of Md Farooque Ahmad (26)" s/o Alhaj Nasib Ali of Lilong Haoreibi Mayai Leikai by a mob at Tharoijam.
Taking serious notes of the incidents, it appealed the High Court of Manipur to take up sue motto to monitor all forms of mob justice in the State and urged the DGP to direct the concerned Police Stations to arrest those violating the law.
It also appealed people of the State to end mob justice and uphold human rights.
