RIMS celebrates 53rd foundation day

Regional Institute of Medical Sciences (RIMS) celebrated its 53rd foundation day at its jubilee hall located at Lamphelpat on Saturday.
While reading out the report of the institute for the year 2023-34, RIMS director Guruaribam Sunilkumar Sharma said that the institute has been providing super speciality, advanced learning and doctorial courses to enhance medical science in the region by offering 125 seats for MBBS and 166 seats for MD/MS in 25 disciplines.
The institute is planning to increase the MBBS seats to 150 from the next academic session, he added.
Sunilkumar expressed hoped that the institute will gain a big spot in health facility not only in Manipur and neighbouring states but also in neighbouring countries like Bangladesh and Myanmar.
During the celebration, meritorious students were awarded with gold medal and other awards.
An annual magazine titled 'Remedy' published by RIMSSU and a journal published by Medical Society were also released.
The foundation day celebration was also attended by RIMS department of respiratory medicine former head Prof N Tombi Singh; RIMS department of Obst & Gynaecology former professor Kh Ibeyaima; RIMS medical superintendent Prof N Sanjib Singh; RIMS dean of academics Prof Brogen Akoijam and 53rd Foundation Day Celebration Reception Sub-Committee chairman Prof A Barindra Sharma as presidium members.
