Leopard cubs rescued

Two leopard cubs (Keijeng Lang), scientific name Felis bengalensis rescued by one Huirem Boiyai s/o H Nipamacha of Tera Khunou from Arong Lairembi Umang Lai complex adjacent to Keibul Lamjao National Park have been handed to Manipur Zoological Garden.
According to a statement issued by Deputy Conservator of Forest (Park and Sanctuary) L Joykumar, the leopard cubs were abandoned by their mother before they were rescued by H Boiyai and handed over to Sangai Protection Forum and Unique Wildlife Protection Committee.
Collecting animals from the wild and handing them over to zoo authorities may not be the right way for conservation of wildlife.
Conservation in the wild natural habitat is the best way for conservation and handing over of wild animals to zoo should be done in the case of unavoidable circumstances, said the DCF.
