Khurai AC candidates share reason, vision

In a bid to understand the vision and objectives of the candidates in fray for the ensuing the 12th Manipur Legislative Assembly, The People's Chronicle put up some questions to the candidates of Khurai assembly constituency, such as reason for contesting election, what they would do if got elected and their vision for a better Manipur.
BJP candidate Leishangthem Susindro (Yaima) said that he is contesting the election as he wants to improve the living standard of the people of his constituency, bring peace and infrastructure development.
He is assuring of distributing smartphones along with 1GB data daily to 10,000 students of the constituency, who have been facing problems in accessing online classes during the pandemic, and to make a long-term vision for development of Khurai AC if got elected.
Susindro also expressed desire to develop Loktak Lake aVa tourist spot and reach out to interior hill areas with development initiatives and bring unity in the state.
He will take his firm stand against any bifurcation of boundary or administration in the state under the party's slogan of one nation one administration.
CPI candidate RK Amusana cited lack of development, infrastructure and poor socio-economic condition of the people in the AC as the main reason behind his decision to contest the election.
While assuring to take up development process in different fields, resolve unemployment problem through various means including providing unemployment allowance to the youth, Amusana pledged to work for bringing economic development, job creation and self-reliance.
According to UP candidate Heisnam Subhash there is a high wall between the elected representative and the public, which is the main cause for almost all issues, and he wants to remove this barrier by contesting the election.
If elected, he will put his priority focus on education and then agriculture followed by health and others for a better society, the candidates assured and stressed the need to strengthen the relationship between hills and valley closer in order to make Manipur a vibrant state and consequently remove the developmental disparity between hills and valley.
JD-U candidate AC Toijam Lokendro also cited the increasing gap between elected representative and public as his main reason for contesting the election.
Controlling Covid-19 pandemic, addressing water shortage issue in Khurai AC and improvement of education sector would be his first priority if elected, he said adding that priority will be to enforce Inner Line Permit (ILP) system effectively to protect the indigenous people of the state.
NCP candidate Khuraijam Ratankumar cited his intention of bringing self-reliance, sound economy and becoming an ideal public representative as the reason for contesting the election.
Once elected, he wants to put his focus on improving irrigation facility, water resources and socio-economic condition of his constituency as well as improve economic resources and to bring economic freedom by mobilising resources and untapped potentials of the state.
According to NPP candidate Laitonjam Jayananda he is contesting the election with the hope of bringing down the trend of selfish people making politics their den and to bring development in the society.
If elected, he will prioritise improvement of road connectivity, education and health sector, Jayananda said and opined that the education sector should be developed for enhancing economy.
He also pledged to work under the One Voice One Northeast slogan of NPP to bring development in the state and raise issues related to the state and northeast at the national level.
He also expressed strong urge to bring improvement in tourism sector, which also has potential for creating jobs.
